Wendy's side of the room was packed up, she'd made sure certain photos would be delivered to Edmund when he got back, and sent anything that wouldn't fit in the car on ahead. She wasn't sure how exactly she'd explain acquiring as much stuff as she did while on a "short retreat in Nepal", but she'd manage.

"Funny. Didn't figure you for a wacky-world type," Katchoo remarked. "Huh. You lookin' forward to getting back to that or what?"

Wendy shrugged. "Most people in my world don't picture it for a wacky-world. Even after they get attacked by the hentai tentacle monsters, or the trout zombies," she said. "But at least there's no gremlins there." That she knew of.

"There are some things I'm looking forward to more than others," Wendy admitted. "I've seen my boyfriend exactly once since I got here. Though he did end up in the pond with Edmund Pevensie then, so that was a bonus."

You know, there were a lot of things that Katchoo had given up on being surprised by. Envying someone a world with hentai tentacle monsters was not one of them.

. . . not like that. They just sounded less scary somehow. Okay, maybe a little bit.

"People, huh? Never underestimate the collective power of denial," she said sardonically. "Do I wanna know about the pond?"

"The bright side is that you can claim the end of a dimensional portal is an illusion, and block it off with a traffic cone," Wendy replied.

"There were leather cat-suits and making out that week when everyone wanted to have sex," she explained. "Ed's sense of honour meant he needed Tyler to hit him, they were in Caritas at the time. Then there were wet boys."

"Fun. If you're into that," was Katchoo's (remarkably understated, for her) opinion on the matter. She could have gone on a rant about that week. NOT BECAUSE SHE WAS BITTER. Really. "The traffic cone thing? Not surprising. Way too many uses for those things."

"Especially the collapsible kind," Wendy agreed. "I did wonder if I could have talked them into becoming an installation. Wet boys in pond, periodic wrestling free of charge."

"Around here?" Katchoo snorted, amused. "Throw in glitter, charge admission, you'd be raking in the bucks."

"I always did like the rich of being a rich art student instead of a penniless one," Wendy said. "Living the cliche is al lot better in theory than practice."

"Ain't it just?" Katchoo drawled. "Counting more lint balls in your pockets than pennies is way less romantic than they make it out to be."

"It helps if you have an equally photogenic roommate, but still not that much fun. Except for Art Crawls!"

There was a fist-pump. No arguing with the fist-pump.

Also an illegal sublet to share with said equally photogenic roommate. And Katchoo totally fist-pumped right back. "Art Crawls!" she echoed, actually grinning. "That was fun. God. Gimme that over some stuffy gala with finger foods any day."

"Especially if you manage to avoid anyone having pretentious epic poetry." Wendy wouldn't want to inflict 'Hey, Mister God' on anyone.

Would anyone with a spark of kindness in their heart want to inflict Pip in general on anyone?

"Geez. Bet that was fun."

"If you count the part where you imagine throwing thing at them to get them off stage."

She had to ask, okay?

"It'd be rude," Wendy said. "And against the whole spirit of the thing. Tempting though."

"Eh." Katchoo tilted her head slightly. "After the thing, though . . ."

"If they aren't the son of the owner of the building you're illegally sub-letting, the temptation can be overwhelming."

"Of course there's a catch. Of course," Katchoo snorted. Without batting an eye at all about illegal sublets.

"Of course witnessing their humiliation when a truth-bomb exposes them as a plagiarist makes up for it some." That had been sweet, sweet revenge courtesy of her boss, indeed.

"Nice," Katchoo said admiringly, although she was firmly mentally resolving to stay the hell away from any truth bombs. (If she knew what they looked like, she'd probably do her best to avoid thermal detonators too, although that'd be a wise idea in any case.) "No worries about you going back to a boring life, then."

"That's pretty much the one thing I don't have to worry about," Wendy said. "I'm not sure whether it's comforting or scary."

"Well, maybe it's both," Katchoo remarked. "I mean, why the hell not? Long as you're not getting shot at . . . unless you get an adrenaline rush that way."

She'd been in Fandom long enough to know that hey, you never knew.

Tambi was happiest when she was getting shot at, so it wasn't like Katchoo could judge. Okay, she could, but she was electing not to.

"Well, good luck with that." Damn, she sucked at small talk when she was being nice.
